Maybe your next family member is waiting here for you.
Great
Danes of the Lighthouse began with a deep love for these gentle giants. Our
first Great Dane was Adrian, a big fawn boy. Gentle on one hand, but very
protective of his family, awesome disposition and manners. Sadly, he passed away
after bloat surgery when he was only 4 1/2 years old. For the longest time, we were
unable to look at any Great Dane.
But,
if you ever shared your home with a Great Dane, it is a love that will never
end.
We
finally decided to go back to the origin of the Great Dane, Germany, and
imported our lovable dogs Eycke and Enno vom Siebengebirge. Though quite
different in the looks compared to the American Great Dane, with much more
bone and head, Enno and Eycke are turning heads, when out shopping or just
for a walk. Below are some pictures of their "Dog
Life on the Farm".
And
our Dane family grew. The next to join our family was Maike. She was a shy, 12
week old Great Dane from a small breeder in the USA. She
is still a bit reserved towards strangers, but energetic and forward, once she
gets to know you.
The
next addition was Diva, a very diva-like lady from Great Britain. She came into
our life, since she did not want to perform in the show ring for her previous
owner. We did not care and promised her a good home. She was outgoing, loved
to visit strangers when shopping, and loved to cuddle up to us at night. Sadly
our lady left us in November 2008 due to Blastomycosis.
Merlin
was the next addition to the Lighthouse gang. He was looking for a forever home
after his owner passed away. Since we cannot say "NO" to sad eyes, he found his
temporary home with us. He found a great home with Patrick, who loves
him dearly.
Yes,
it can get a bit crazy around here, especially when the whole gang storms up the
steps to say "Hello". But after everybody received their hugs, everyone finds a
spot to do, what our Great Danes do best, "hang out".
Our
dogs and puppies are raised within our home and family. They are socialized from
the moment they are born until they are ready to join their new family. All of
our family members have an excellent disposition, are loyal and make a great
addition to any dog loving home.
The
reason for importing our family members was to go back to the original look of
the Great Dane. Enno is just the prime example. We love the jowls, big head,
lots of bone and chest. He might not prance around like Merlin, but he has a
presence about him.
If you
are interested in one of our puppies, please fill out our Puppy Application. We
will contact you, as soon as the application has been reviewed. But, if you are
looking for a puppy with cropped ears, please look elsewhere. We will not allow
that one of our kids undergoes an unnecessary and cruel cosmetic alteration.
Sadly, one of our pups a stud dog owner received as part of the stud fee, was
cropped without our knowledge and against the verbal assurance by the stud dog
owner. We will not post any pictures of this puppy and have cut
all ties to this breeder.
Please be informed that our
dogs and our efforts represent generations of European-bred Great Danes with
several notable titles and significant attributes relative to good health
through efforts of dedicated testing and analysis. It is for this reason that
we ask that you not contact us if you are looking for a "cheap" or "free" Great
Dane.
Now
that you know more about us, meet our Lighthouse gang. Please be patient, some
pages take time to load.
